Description

This old peony cultivar has classically beautiful looks. A Japanese style peony, Peony 'Doreen' has outer layers of bright, rosy-pink petals in several subtle shades which encircle a prominent pompon of frilly yellow stamens. The lightly scented blooms stand up well against wind and rain and are held on sturdy stems – a package which has earned this mid-season, long-blooming peony a well-deserved RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 90cm (36”). Spread: 50cm (20”).

How to Grow
Bare roots should be planted at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Grow peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, moist, well drained soil. Peony plants prefer a heavy soil that is rich in organic matter. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting. Plant herbaceous peonies so that the top of the crown is just 5cm (2”) below the soil surface, taking care not to plant too deeply as this may prevent or delay peonies from flowering.
More Info
Feed and water peonies regularly until plants are fully established. In exposed positions the stems may require staking to support the large peony flowers. Cut back old foliage in autumn. When growing peonies on light sandy soil, a spring mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost may be applied around the base of the plant, taking care not to bury the crown as this may delay flowering.
